Client: New Look
Project: Let's Go Online
Live date: January 06

Description:

High-street fashion retailer New Look realised that its programme of standard face-to-face inductions for new store managers was no longer the best way of getting staff up-to-speed in a demanding role. The problem was exacerbated by the acquisition of new stores from Littlewords and by the fact that they have varying sizes and categories of stores, including the prestigious Brand Flag outlets.

Working with I4L's Terry Fox and Scott Wilson, New Look specified a new approach based on our ISS Intelligent Shell System which customises the induction content according to the user profile. Every day in their first few weeks inductees perform offline tasks then visit the site to check their understanding and record their performance against a checklist of objectives. Line Managers and HR staff can login to review their progress and follow up personally if required.

According to New Look's Training and Development Manager Elaine Oliver: "The system looks easy for the end-user but it is complex behind the screens. Store managers who have seen it love it. I believe it is a huge leap forward for induction training, which puts us ahead of our competitors." (Quoted in Training and Coaching Today, p.16, 21st Feb 06)

Project: Procurement Connection
Live date: January 06

Description:

The Procurement team at Derbyshire County Council were faced with the problem of disseminating best practice in procurement to everyone involved in purchasing across all the schools in the county. The issue was how to make sure that everyone had the latest information (guidelines, templates etc) as documents were frequently updated. The solution was to develop a site based on the ISS Intelligent Shell System that allowed administrators with no technical skills to upload, annotate, edit and delete documents as required without the need to contact a web developer each time. The Council have been pleased with both the ease of use and the response.

John Watson, Principal Procurement Officer, comments: "The [Innovation 4 Learning] team have been very capable and professional. In particular they have listened closely and interpreted our requirements correctly; been responsive and visited our team when appropriate; delivered to our mutually agreed schedule; offered ideas and innovation. I would have no hesitation in recommending them for similar work."

The site is now available to other Councils to purchase as a customisable resource. For more information contact Terry Fox on 01332 591017.

Project: Freedom of Information
Live date: December 05

Description:

Freedom of Information legislation affects all public sector organisations - and the British Museum are no exception. There was a need to ensure that staff within the organisation were all au fait with the requirements of the Act as an ill-considered response to a request for information from a member of the public could result in a penalty or bad publicity. The answer was an ISS-based site which allows site adminstrators to keep all content up-to-date and includes a facility to create and edit simple quizzes with feedback. Usage of the system by individual users is recorded and can be reviewed by the site administrators.
