Case Studies See below for a small selection of case studies:Online Assessment
Description: The Equine Study department of Warwickshire College offers a well-established distance learning course for apprentices in the equine industry leading to the NPTC Level 2 Certificate 'Health and Safety for those Working in the Equine Industry. However, they had encountered issues in assessing students dispersed in remote rural areas across the country. Working with I4L's Don Mackenzie, programme leader Karen Tolley was able to develop an online assessment (based on our TRIADS system) which overcame these obstacles. This easy-to-administer assessment will be used by other training providers preparing students for the same qualification, creating another income stream for the College.
Description: Cambridge Assessment is Europe's largest assessment agency, offering examinations in the English language around the world. One of the practical issues inherent in being a global provider is the difficulty of delivering and collecting examination papers and associated resources from far-flun locations - and this is especially problematic with disciplines such as biology where students are required to work with slides. Professor Don Mackenzie of I4L worked with the team at Cambridge Assessment to develop a fully-functioning virtual microscope to support 'A' and 'AS' level examinations which could be packaged up with slidesets and easily distributed on CD-ROM. The disc 'captures' student interactions allowing the examiner to cross-reference with diagrams the students sketch during the exam, ensuring the diagrams have not simply been memorised.
A repackaged practice version of the disc is now published by Cambridge Hitachi and available from our Derby 14-19 division.
