Innovation for Learning: About Us
Introduction to Innovation for Learning
Innovation for Learning is a mature (since 2004) commercial applied research unit within the University of Derby. Innovation for Learning provides high quality, customer focused technology assisted e-learning systems and content to educators and trainers in the private, public, education, health and social care sectors.
Innovation for Learning collaborates closely with the leading University of Derby learning and design groups to bring the newest learning technology to the business market place. These groups include an in-house production team that has a track record in creating information and educational videos, as well as a faculty that works closely with the Health Sectors providing the next generation of healthcare workers.
Innovation for Learning is also able to fall back on the academic expertise and knowledge from the schools and faculties within the University, this means that the content we provide can be technically the most uptodate available; drawing on our expertise in law and legislation for example.
Innovation for Learning works alongside the University of Derby Corporate (UDC) which is the business interface of the University. The UDC has the ability to provide high quality educational solutions to meet the needs of business today.
Innovation for Learning utilises its backing from the University of Derby to facilitate the provision of tailored solutions comprising of specially created programmes, accredited training, blended learning and consultancy or knowledge transfer partnerships. This is delivered to organisations that wish to enhance the professional skills of their workforce or perhaps have a requirement to ensure training compliance within specific industry sectors.
Innovation for Learning systems are based on the combination of the two areas, academic learning and business understanding, combining the knowledge with the practical.
This consultative approach ensures that collectively we can resolve challenges and our work based learning approach ensures that our recommendation to our clients add value as opposed to adding to workload.
It is always our objective, therefore, to propose the overall solution to a requirement and not a single component within a chain.
Innovation for Learning has extensive experience of bespoke development for educational consortia. These projects include the development of the Learning Through Work platform for UfI Learning Through Work and 10 partner Higher Education Institutes.
Innovation for Learning have contributed, and continue to contribute, to a large number of NHS learning related projects including assessment for Safe Prescribing and Medicines Administration (nominated for a Times Higher Education Award 2009) as well as specific learning resources for falls and bones, mental health, dementia, and osteoporosis.
Innovation for Learning have also developed the NHS Health Trainers e-Learning Resource, providing a sophisticated online e-learning platform, which has been developed to give the NHS administration staff a content management ‘Word' style interface so that changes to content can be made with minimal IT skills.
Other clients include: Center Parcs' Learning Academy, Heinz, The British Museum, New Look Retail, Pendragon Plc, Nottingham City Council and Rotherham Council.
Innovation for Learning have also developed a number of off-the-shelf products, including our PLATO – Plagiarism Teaching Online (www.preventplagiarism.co.uk) for which we have sold site licenses to more than 30 universities and colleges, and eAPEL now part of the iPerformer prior learning tools portfolio.
